Souths Cares delivers successful Wellbeing Program at Curran Public School

The Souths Cares team, with the support of Rabbitohs fullback Alex Johnston and Rabbitohs ambassador Luke Burgess delivered the Oral Health Program last week at Curran Public School.

The Oral Health Program involves teaching primary school students about the importance of oral health care, nutrition and physical activity. During the program, students progress through a number of stations including an interactive oral health workshop, a physical activity and a health screening.

Alex Johnston played an instrumental role in the program delivery and is using his time whilst injured to support Souths Cares programs and give back to the community.

Johnston was impressed with the students’ enthusiasm at Curran Public School.

"The students at Curran Public were eager to learn about their health and get involved in the football clinics," Alex said.

"We hope delivering this program will help the students make healthier life choices now and into the future."

Shane Westerland, teacher at Curran Public School explained the program was a huge hit with his students.

"Our students had a blast and learned some really important ways to stay healthy," Mr Westerland explained.

"The school was buzzing with excitement from the visit and we could not stop talking about it. What a great experience, we loved having Souths at our school and can’t wait to have you back again!”

Over 250 students completed the program at Curran Public School which was part of Souths Cares’ commitment to delivering health promotion programs in South Western Sydney.

The initiative is supported by the Australian Federal Government.
