Seibold Heads North For Origin

Rabbitohs Assistant Coach Anthony Seibold will change environments this week heading up North to take on the role as Queensland Maroons Assistant Coach for his second year.

“As a coach you are always learning and want to be exposed to the very best,” explained Seibold.

“Working with the very elite players of the game is a great experience and a great opportunity for me as a coach.”

As the Maroons have the absence of a number of experienced players, Seibold says they have a good mix and he is excited to see some players making their Queensland debut.

“Obviously we’ve got some experience out with JT (Johnathan Thurston), Matt Scott, GI (Greg Inglis), Corey Parker, etc. But I think there is a really good mix.

“We‘re very excited about Dylan Napa and Anthony Milford making their debuts for Queensland.

“They’ve been in our system since the under 20s programs and been part of our emerging Origin squad which I’ve been a part of over the years so it is an exciting time for those players and it’s a great learning curve for them as players as well, working with Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk.”

As the team is made up of players from a mixture of different clubs, Seibold explains the importance of taking ‘your club hat off’ in order to come together and play as a group which he believes have aided to the success of the Maroons over the last couple of seasons.

“You certainly have to take your club hat off as you walk into the camp.

“I think it’s a good ethos to have, we are all from different clubs but we get together each year and we identify how we play as a group. There is a great opportunity for all of the players to get success if they are all on the same page.

“We are excited about our chances.”

The State of Origin I will take place on Wednesday 31 May at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
