Rabbitohs forward, Sam Burgess, is looking forward to heading home to ANZ Stadium this Thursday for this week’s Round 9 clash against the Wests Tigers.
The dual-English international was last night named in Head Coach, Michael Maguire’s 17 man squad for the match, and will lock the scrum wearing the number 13 jersey.
The Tigers meanwhile come into this week’s clash having gone down to the Canberra Raiders by 60-6 – a result that Burgess is certain the Tigers will be out to improve on.
“We’re looking forward to getting back to ANZ in front of our Members and fans,” said Burgess.
“Looking forward to playing back in Sydney against Wests Tigers – I’m sure it will be another good challenge for us, we’ve got a few things to improve on.
“They’ll obviously be looking to turn things around, but the reality is we’ve got to work on putting a better performance out there ourselves.
“We only completed 56% in the first half against the Broncos and you’re just not going to win footy games doing that.
“If we fix up a few areas, it’ll go a long way to putting the result in a better position.”
Burgess also thanked the many Rabbitohs Members and supporters who have followed the side in recent weeks during the course of their away trips to Queensland – the forward expecting much the same this week at ANZ Stadium back at home.
“We’re fortunate as a Club,” said Burgess.
“We have support throughout the whole of Australia – and back in England I might say as well. And obviously we’ve got the fans and Members that travel up from Sydney to a lot of our games which is pretty cool.
“We’re not quite getting the results on the field for them right now, but I think we took a few steps in the right direction on Friday.
“We’ll harness that and take it into Thursday’s game.”
