Round One: Half Time Takeaways

1) Play flat and fast

Strong charges led by the outside backs in our end allowed Cook to get out of dummy-half and play direct. This put our forwards on the front-foot who poked their nose through the line on a number of occasions.

Both bustling front-rowers had an outstanding first stint that lasted 25 minutes before being subbed off. Tatola was a stand-out leading the way with a staggering 144 metres in the first half.

2) Shape to pass. Bring the defence up

On two instances Adam Reynolds dummied to go long then either put a deft kick through (for a repeat set) or went himself to post first points of the game.

By shaping to go long, the Sharks outside defenders naturally move up-and-out to shut the play down, which then provides space either directly behind them, or in-and-around the ruck.

3) Take the two

We saw a total of three penalty goals across the half proving that in the wet conditions points are crucial. Newly-appointed Captain, Adam Reynolds scored 12 points for the Rabbitohs in that first period.

4) Our right looks threatening but must work as a unit

Our right-side attack has looked dangerous with ball-in-hand, especially when the Jet receives early ball. We however need to work tighter as a unit in defence, seen when Wade Graham crashed over for his try. With this being said, the right edge looked solid when bundling Ronaldo Mulitalo into touch; but it starts by working as one.

5) The kick is only as good as it's chase

A well-weighted kick from Cody Walker just before the half gave Souths a chance at the Shark's line. Braidon Burns was the man to pin Will Kennedy in his in-goal and we capitalised through Campbell Graham in the set following.
