Rodwell's Journey From Bombala to South Sydney

Since moving to Sydney from Bombala in far southern New South Wales, Rabbitohs NYC prop Ky Rodwell has experienced whole lot of change in his life, having risen through the ranks, captaining the SG Ball side and making his NYC debut this year.

However, the forward explains how he has grown not only in his footy career but as a person as well.

“It’s a lot different to my little town,” he said of living in the Harbour City.

“Debuting for NYC against the Broncos in round eight has been the best thing so far. It was a lot faster and physical but I’ve enjoyed just growing as a football player and as a person.”

Rodwell first came to the Rabbitohs after playing a match against the junior Rabbitohs at Cooma Showground as a Group 16 player, and afterwards he was approached and invited to play for the Harold Matthews (Under 16’s) side.

“After the game they asked me to come and do preseason with Harold Matthews and since then I’ve stayed here.”

Rabbitohs NYC head coach, Ryan Carr, spoke highly of Ky Rodwell following his recent selection in the Australian Schoolboys side.

“Ky is a great young kid. He works super hard on his footy, he’s really good both on and off the field and he is a pleasure to coach,” said Carr.

“I love the way he competes on every play, and I think if he can keep that as a part of his game, moving forward he will make it a fair way in footy.

“His work ethic is second to none, the boys love playing with him, he plays tough, he plays hard and everything he does is at 100 miles an hour.”

Carr explained Rodwell’s role not only as an individual but as a team member, stating that he places his team efforts first and foremost.

“He is a great teammate and a good team player,” continued Carr.

“Team first efforts are big in his game and I couldn’t speak highly enough of him and I am really happy for him that he made the Australian Schoolboys team, because it is a good reward and a good reflection on how far he has come and where he is at with his game at the moment.”

Rodwell spoke on his selection in the Australian Schoolboys team and how much it meant to him while also focusing on his next goal for his rugby league career.

“It means everything. I kind of worked for it for a while as a goal,” said Rodwell.

“I would like to play NRL, that’s my main goal.”
