Rabbitohs women make it three from three

The South Sydney Rabbitohs women’s team have trampled rivals Cronulla-Caringbah Sharks 40-6, continuing their unbeaten start to the season.

The Rabbitohs were impeccable right across the park, with or without the ball, with every player putting in 110%.

The Red and Green were immediately up for the clash, showing immense physicality to rattle their opposition early on.

It was from their quality work off the ball that the Rabbitohs scored their first try.

Forcing an error out of the Sharks, Taleena Simon scooped up the lost ball and run 50 metres to score to continue her incredible try streak and put her side out to a 4-0 lead.

The Rabbitohs would suffer from ill-discipline, which allowed Cronulla-Caringbah up the field but their goal line defence held up impeccably, forcing another error from the Sharks.

The Rabbitohs second try would come off the great work from their forwards.

Two big strong runs from the Red and Green forward pack allowed fullback Sharon McGrady to break through a jagged Sharks Line and run 80 metres to score.

Halfback Maddie Studdon added the easy two points from in front to stretch the Rabbitohs lead out to 10-0 after 12 minutes.

The game quickly turned into a South Sydney masterpiece with back-to-back tries.

Five-eighth Lavina O’Mealey burrowed her way over from close range after the Cardinal and Myrtle forced another turnover in Cronulla-Caringbah’s half.

Another try followed shortly after with Jasmin Allende running on to a cracking pass from Studdon to score right next to the posts.

Studdon easily slotted both conversions to make it 22-0 after just 20 minutes.

The game would become a stalemate for the next ten minutes as either side struggled to play out their sets.

Cronulla-Caringbah would eventually get their first points on the back of a couple of penalties as Courtney-rae Yasserie crashed over from close range.

The try was converted by fullback Tayla Preston, shortening the scoreline down to 22-6 after 30 minutes.

However, the Rabbitohs answered immediately with simple and powerful football.

The Red and Green stars ran hard and strong at the defence and inevitably burst through, through forward Eunice Grimes, who was simply too strong close to the line, adding another South Sydney try.

Studdon would add the extra points but there would be no more in the first half with the Rabbitohs heading to the sheds leading 28-6.

The Red and Green stars would start the second half like they did the first with a flurry of strong tackles and would get their first try straight after the restart.

O’Mealey would score a carbon copy of her first half try, as she ducked and weaved her way to the line, giving the Rabbitohs a 32-6 lead.

The Sharks would come close on a couple of occasions, but time and time again the Red and Green continued to repel them.

Off the back of some incredible defence, the Rabbitohs ran through the Sharks line with ease and had their next try just before the hour mark, as winger Karri Doyle crossed over in the corner on the back of a 90-metre set.

The game would then become a strong tussle in the middle of the park but it was Souths who would finish off the day as the last try scorers, with Kimbaley Kershaw completing the Rabbitohs women’s 40-6 victory.
