The South Sydney Rabbitohs welcomed new CEO, Mr Blake Solly, to Redfern this week with the new man at the helm speaking to Rabbitohs TV.
Mr Solly joins the Rabbitohs after holding the position of General Manager of the First Utility Super League in the UK, a position which he held for the past two years, and brings with him vast experience in Rugby League administration, as well as many years’ experience as a lawyer.
For the man himself, his arrival in Sydney is a homecoming, having spent some 11 years in the UK.
“It’s great to be back in Australia,” said Mr Solly.
“I’m just really trying to get my head around the business at the moment, but it has been a wonderful experience so far and (I’m) just really looking forward now to working hard and getting to know the Members, getting to know the players, getting to know the team off the field and having some success.”
Asked for his assessment on the Club as he begins his tenure, the former English Super League boss was enthusiastic in his praise, in addition to sounding out where he believes the Club is, and should be heading.
“Obviously it’s a great Club, and the journey it’s been on for the last six, seven, ten years, has been amazing,” said Mr Solly.
“(A) wonderful Membership base, such a passionate group of people running the Club and working at the Club, hopefully some success on the field as well – so I think when you put those three together the opportunity is to make sure the Club continues to grow and grow.”
Mr Solly has previously held positions as Director of Standards and Licensing, and Compliance Manager, of the Rugby Football League in England, and has studied internationally in Australia and the United States of America.
The Rabbitohs will take on the St George Illawarra Dragons in Thursday Night Football this week at ANZ Stadium, in what will be the Club’s own Indigenous Round clash.
