A total of 10 Rabbitohs first-graders were on hand at Souths Juniors last week to help welcome the Club’s 2016 NYC (under 20s) squad as they begin their journey.
The contingent of first graders – all products of the Club’s lower grades – took time out to welcome the new under 20s squad, sharing a meal and encouraging words on the eve of 2016 Premiership kick-off.
Jason Clark, John Sutton, Adam Reynolds, Aaron Gray, Brock Gray, Alex Johnston, Cameron McInnes, Cheyne Whitelaw, Zane Musgrove and Kyle Turner did the honours, in a gesture that NYC Head Coach, David Penna, described as symbolically significant.
“This is the first step in a long journey for these boys,” said Penna of his squad.
“Having boys like Clarky, Camo, and Adam – who have come through the Club’s system through Souths Juniors, the Harold Matthews, SG Ball and eventually through to first grade – encouraging these young blokes is part of what we do here as a Club.
“We have to thank all the boys for investing time in nurturing the next generation of Rabbitohs.
“We also have to thank Keith McCraw and the Board of Souths Juniors for hosting us – Souths Juniors are a huge part of what we do not only as major sponsors of our team, but also in aiding the development of so much local talent.
