Rabbitohs cheer on champion Opetaia

South Sydney Rabbitohs players were in attendance to support Australian cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia as he extended his unbeaten professional record to 14-0.

Donning the mighty Rabbitohs logo on his shorts, Opetaia made quick work of his opponent Ben Kelleher. The 22-year-old scored a third-round stoppage when the Queensland-based fighter could not continue after suffering a suspected broken hand.

Despite the untimely end for Kelleher, Opetaia remained confident in his ability telling ringside reporters that he would have won despite his opponent’s injury.

Eight Rabbitohs players and Assistant Coach David Furner were in attendance to cheer on Jai, a week after he called in to the High Performance Centre at Redfern Oval to deliver a boxing masterclass.

Needless to say, the Rabbitohs thoroughly enjoyed themselves as the home-crowd hero romped home to a decisive victory.

After thanking his family and his support team, Jai spoke to the Rabbitohs contingent after and said their support didn’t go unnoticed.

“It was great to have the boys there I could hear them cheering me on through the fight,” Opetaia said.

“All the support from Souths has been awesome and it was a privilege to wear the logo on my shorts.”
