Rabbitohs backs star in big win over Magpies

The South Sydney Rabbitohs women's team have returned to winning ways with a 78-2 victory over the Wentworthville Magpies at Norford Oval.

Six tries from winger Taleena Simon and a hat-trick from fullback Nakia Davis-Welsh was the highlight of the match as the Rabbitohs proved too strong for the struggling Magpies.

The Rabbitohs shot out of the gate with Davis-Welsh kick-starting the Red and Green's try fest with a quick-fire double inside the first five minutes of the match.

The Rabbitohs then piled on the points with four tries in ten minutes, Taleena Simon scored twice, while opposite winger Ianeta Baker and halfback Maddie Studdon chipped in with their own four-pointers giving Souths a 38-0 lead with only 15 minutes gone.

While the outside backs were having a field day, it was coming off the great work being done by the Rabbitohs pack.

Forward Kowana Welsh wasn't going to let the speedsters have all the fun, crashing over from close range to extend the Rabbitohs lead.

The match then turned into the Simon show as the talented winger turned on the style scoring three tries back-to-back dancing and weaving her way through the defence with ease on each occasion.

Centre Karri Doyle wrapped up the half with a try for herself while Studdon put in an impressive performance with the boot to give the Rabbitohs a 62-2 lead at half-time.

The second half wasn't as high paced as the first as the Rabbitohs women slotted back into third gear.

However, there were still a few players who wanted in on the try scoring action.

Returning captain Lavina O'Mealey capped off her comeback into the squad with a try for herself, which was converted by Studdon, stretching the Rabbitohs' unassailable lead.

However, the Rabbitohs weren't finished yet, as the two stars of the match Davis-Welsh and Simon capped off their individual performance with late tries.

Davis-Welsh was first to touchdown making it a hat-trick on her return to the fullback position as she split the defence right open to score next to the posts, making it easy work for Studdon to add the extras.

Simon then finished off the incredible Souths' performance with her sixth try of the match crossing over out wide to wrap up a fantastic win the for the girls in Cardinal and Myrtle, as they continued their unbeaten run in 2018.
