Oldfield – I’m Proud to Wear the Jersey

For Rabbitohs outside back, Michael Oldfield, wearing the Red and Green jersey of South Sydney is a source of great pride.

Oldfield made his Club debut for the Rabbitohs in the Good Friday clash against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs after being called up to the team for Alex Johnston who was a late withdrawal.

Oldfield would grab his side’s first try on the day, in a match that saw him make three tackle busts, run for 78 metres and make 15 tackles in his side’s 42-12 loss to the ‘Dogs.

Donning the Red and Green of South Sydney for the first time in a Premiership match was an important moment for Oldfield, who said there was plenty of nerves and excitement ahead of his first match.

“A bit nervous – very excited,” said Oldfield.

“It’s something that I’m very proud of, to put the South Sydney jersey on. It’s a great Club and a great bunch of boys.

“I’m really proud to have the honour but disappointed that we couldn’t come away with the win and celebrate in the right way I’d like to.”

A centre, winger, or fullback, Oldfield featured in the Club’s 2016 pre-season campaign, including making contributions to the side’s Auckland Nines campaign and Charity Shield clash.

The Rabbitohs will now prepare to take on the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles at Brookvale Oval in Thursday Night Football in Round 5 of the NRL.
