Murray Ambitious To Bring Success To Rabbitohs

It was a brilliant year for Cam Murray - it took the young forward only nine games to prove he was deserving of the John Sattler Rookie of the Year for 2017. However, Cam has his eyes on much bigger accolades for the Club.

Accepting his award at the Red and Green Ball last Friday night, Cam showed his ambition for the Rabbitohs and his desire to spearhead a new era of success for the Club.

“I can’t wait to rip in next year,” said Murray.

“I’m really excited for what’s to come here. I’ve got big hopes for the future here at the Club and I can’t wait to be a part of the success of this Club in the future.“

To play first grade is a dream come true for the Souths Junior and the honour of claiming Rookie of the Year is something that Murray credits to the coaches of the Souths Juniors system.

“For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to played first grade and I’m very grateful to get the opportunity this year,” said Murray.

“I want to thank the coaches in my career; from my first coach Mick Azzopardi, from me running around at L' Estrange Park when I was a four year old, all the way up to the Juniors rep coaches, Willie Peters and Matt King.

“The Juniors have been a huge help for me. They’ve supported me all the way and they’ve all believed in my so I’m very grateful for that.

“And all the way up to the top with Michael Maguire, like I said before I’m very grateful for the opportunity he gave me this year, I can’t put into words how much he’s helped me over the years.”

Murray also took the opportunity to thank his family, partner and the playing group at the Rabbitohs for the unerring support of his first grade ambitions.

“I want to say a huge thank you to my family. They’ve been my rock. They’ve kept me grounded since I was a young boy,” said Murray.

“My partner Miranda, she’s probably beared the front of all my emotions this year, the good and the bad, but she’s always sitting next to me helping me through it so thank you.

“Lastly, I want to thank the players. It’s a huge transition from the Juniors, the NSW Cup and 20s to go into a first grade arena and I just want to say thank you to the players for believing in me. For always being there and helping me through the pre-season and that, I’m forever grateful for what you guys have done for me.”
