The South Sydney Rabbitohs will be looking to repay their Members with a win against the Canberra Raiders on Saturday night at ANZ Stadium.
Young backrower Tyrell Fuimaono spoke to the media ahead of the clash with the Raiders, citing their motivation to turn things around as a key point during the week.
“We’re very disappointed. I think everyone’s in the same boat. We’re disappointed in the result and our performance so we’ll come to training and try turn things around. It’s all we can do really,” said Fuimaono.
“Personally; I like to keep the same mindset, put our best foot forward each week and keep improving. We like to take each week as it comes and I think most of the boys treat it the same way and try to put our best performances in each week.
“They’re in a similar boat to us and they’re going to come out and get those two points just as much as we do so we’ve just got to prepare as we normally would to give ourselves the best opportunity to win”.
Front rower Tom Burgess agreed with his teammate’s sentiments, singling out their intentions to perform for the members during Member Appreciation round.
With the last ANZ home game drawing in over 14,000 supporters, the English international touched on the importance of giving back to the Members, particularly against the Raiders who are also fighting to keep their season alive.
“We’ve just got to keep going, we owe that to the fans. We owe it to them to keep performing and working on our game each week,” said Burgess.
“This week we’ve got the Canberra Raiders and we’ll take it to them as a team and put our best performance out there at ANZ, and that’s what the fans deserve. It has been frustrating. We’ve played well in parts and when we’ve lost I don’t feel like we’ve played awful, we’ve lost by one or two tries so it’s a bit tough to take this year.
“It’s hard for the fans as well, there’s a lot who come to watch us every week so all we can do is keep trying to perform and keep going as a squad.
“There’s always everything on the line when you cross that white line there’s always something to play for so we’ve got to keep our mindset the same all year and just keep putting in on the training paddock.”
The hulking front rower also dismissed the suspension of Raiders forward Sia Soliola as a possible distraction to the squad.
“Personally I didn’t see it. I heard it was pretty bad but I’m sure it will get reviewed and he will get whatever penalty he’s given.
Burgess also gave an update on the rib injury his brother Sam sustained against the Sharks.
“They’ll just monitor him this week and see how he is come Saturday. I’ve had the injury before and every time you breathe it affects it. We’ll just see how he goes in training and probably give him up until the last minute to prove his fitness.”
