Meet Our 20,000th Member!

Justin Smith from Rouse Hill has been a South Sydney fan since his birth in 1972 and has seen it all during our historic existence.

This year Justin once again signed himself up along with his family, however, this time his re-signing came with a little twist as Justin became our magical 20,000th Member!

He and his family have been Members for “six to seven” years after being gifted a Membership from a South Sydney staff member.

Once the year was up Justin and his family were eager to keep their seats.

“We became Souths Members because my wife’s hairdresser’s son was a graphic designer at South Sydney,” said Smith.

Justin grew up supporting South Sydney legends such as Phil Blake, Ziggy Niszczot and Mario Fenech and has a keen memory of his best and worst moments as a South Sydney Rabbitohs supporter.

“I remember when we won the minor Premiership and then the following year we were the wooden spooners, so I’ve seen the good the bad and the ugly,” he laughed.

Justin missed out on South Sydney’s historic Premiership streak but made sure he was on hand to witness the long awaited Grand Final celebration back in 2014.

“I took the family out, I was born in ‘72 and they last won the comp in ‘71 so I’d never seen them win. To have the opportunity to share my joy with my family meant a whole lot to me,” said Smith.

Luckily for Justin, he’s managed to convert the family with both his wife and two kids Members of the mighty Red and Green.

“The whole family are Rabbitohs Members, when we go out to games the wife calls it family fun day,” said Smith.

“My Son and daughter both like Angus Crichton and Adam Reynolds.”

Justin is extremely keen on seeing our home game against the long standing rivals the Sydney Roosters at ANZ Stadium.

“I’ll probably head out to that game, I like watching all the teams play but I love watching us the play the Roosters cause everyone hates them.”

Justin has high hopes for the upcoming season and expects big things from the team and new coach Anthony Seibold.

“I’m looking forward to seeing a different approach and game plan to last season,” said Smith.

“I really hope we make the finals and be competitive, I believe we have the team to contend with best Clubs in the NRL.”
