Rabbitohs Head Coach, Michael Maguire, has given his insights into this week’s Round 1 clash against the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium following the naming of this week’s team.
Earlier today (Tuesday), Maguire named a strong line-up to contest the first game of the season in what will be the next chapter in a long tradition between the Rabbitohs and the Roosters.
Asked what Rabbitohs Members and supporters can expect from his side come Sunday afternoon, Maguire was succinct.
“A team that’s really looking forward to playing footy,” said the Head Coach.
“The boys that performed throughout the trials definitely get their opportunity in Round 1.
“A lot of young guys really showed what they were capable of throughout the Charity Shield and the Titans game.
“There’s a lot of great feel around the place – there’s a lot of hunger amongst what we’ve been building the last couple of months throughout pre-season and there’s a lot of work being put in.”
The Roosters meanwhile come into the clash having taken part in a pre-season camp in Dubai before moving on to the UK to take part in the expanded World Club Series – defeating St Helens at Langtree Park by 32-12.

Maguire is expecting the Tricolours to be at their best, and is focusing on his team’s preparations.
“We’re playing against a team that’s been overseas and travelled to Dubai and back,” said Maguire.
“No doubt they’re going to be prepared, but for us it’s about really focusing on ourselves, on the things that we’ve been practicing and looking forward to Sunday.”
The announcement of Maguire’s Round 1 line-up yielded responses to a number of burning questions regarding his side, including the make-up of the centres – Hymel Hunt and Bryson Goodwin winning that particular race – while Cody Walker will partner Adam Reynolds in the halves.
But it was the hookers that were of key interest, with Cameron McInnes and Damien Cook both ultimately getting a spot in Maguire’s 17, in what will be a one-two punch from dummy-half.
“The way they compete and the way they play – there’s going to be times where you might see them out there together,” said Maguire of his two rakes.
“I’ve got great options around the number nine. We saw Camo (McInnes) play at lock at some stage. I’ve got a lot of opportunity in what we can do with those two boys.”
The Rabbitohs will take on the Roosters for 213th time this Sunday, with kick-off slated for 4pm.
