Head Coach Michael Maguire is back for Round One to give his insights ahead of our clash with the Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium this Friday at 8:05pm!
Excitement is spreading through the Simply Energy High Performance Centre with Maguire keen to see the pre-season work show on the field.
"A lot of work has been put in, in the background, over the last three months and we're really looking forward to kicking off on Friday," said Maguire.
"The boys are in really good spirits and are very focused around what we need to do."
With Maguire's side welcoming back Captain Greg Inglis, forward Zane Musgrove and with Luke Kelly slotting into the halves spot left vacant by Adam Reynolds' appendicitis - Maguire believes this is a chance for our players to stand up and impress.
"Greggy (Greg Inglis) has come back in, obviously a pretty easy selection that one," smiled Maguire.
"He's in really good spirits. He's put a lot of work in himself since coming back. He's really refreshed and I'm looking forward to him leading our team in a strong way.
"Zane (Musgrove) comes back in - He's been performing and showing the standards of the organisation.
"The circumstances with Adam (Reynolds) - It's given Luke (Kelly) an opportunity. I've been fortunate I've worked with Luke before and he's a real pro around how he gets around the park.
"I'm looking forward to seeing him stand up and get through the things that he's had to face in his career."
Maguire is calling on all the Souths Members and fans to make it to ANZ Stadium for our first clash of the 2017 NRL Season to help his team perform their best on Friday night.
"It'd be great to get all our Members out there again. It's been really good and refreshing around the community here in Redfern," said Maguire.
"We're looking forward to seeing them all again and getting back into the footy season."
