Maguire's Insights: Round 2, 2017

Head Coach Michael Maguire reviewing his options for our Round Two clash with the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles after naming 21 players who the coach admits all have a fair chance at featuring.

After a lacklustre performance in Round One, Maguire feels his team has a much better performance in them and is calling for his team to lift ahead of Saturday's fixture.

"I'm obviously looking at our squad at the moment," said Maguire.

"There are a number of players who are on that extended bench that may have a chance of playing. It comes down to the training and looking at what we need to do and what's best for the team moving forward."

The big questions facing Maguire is who will replace injured Club captain Greg Inglis with the coach giving his answer in the form of Alex Johnston.

The vacated winger spot will go to upcoming Rabbitoh Braidon Burns who claimed the position after a strong performance for the North Sydney Bears last Saturday.

"He's (Alex Johnston) put a lot of time in during the pre-season. Greg had some time off after the international stuff and Alex spent a fair bit of time at fullback," said Maguire.

"I'm really confident he's going to come in and really enjoy playing fullback. It's something he's always wanted so now is the opportunity for him.

"I've got a lot of time for Braidon and how he's come into the Club. He's actually a real passionate Souths kid, he loves the team and he loves his teammates.

"To be able to give these young guys a go is a real credit to where they're at at the moment. Now it's about grabbing that with their two hands."

Maguire expects a tough match for his men at Lottoland this Saturday but also expects a much better performance from his squad.

"I've had a fair bit of focus again around our team. We didn't get the performance that we set out to and it's about making sure that we bounce back and do the things that we practice."

"We go up against a team with a tough forward back and plenty of speed out on their edges so we have to be spot on."
