Maguire's Insights: Round 14, 2017

With the first bye round behind us, Head Coach Michael Maguire is back to give his insights into his team selection and the clash with the Brisbane Broncos ahead of Friday's trip to Lang Park.

The Bye round offered the Rabbitohs boss and his playing group time to refresh after a less than impressive start to the season. However, Maguire's men will be boosted as they start the second half of their campaign by welcoming back two senior players to the squad in the forms of Bryson Goodwin and Jason Clark.

"The boys had a little break after our last game to mentally refresh but they've come back in and put a lot of work in on the park," said Maguire.

"To have Bryson back and obviously Clarky, two of our leaders to come back into our squad, I think that's going to be a real positive for us."

Morale at the Simply Energy High Performance Centre has also been boosted by the return of sidelined Captain Greg Inglis, who has joined up with his teammates after taking time away from the game last month.

"He's come back in really good spirits," said Maguire.

"It's really good to have Greg's presence around the place - he's back into his rehab and he's in really good form."

Accountability is a big focus for Maguire ahead of our Round 14 clash with the Brisbane Broncos, with the Head Coach impressed with the way his squad have taken ownership of their performances and prepared well for their trip away to Lang Park.

"Obviously we've looked at where we are and what we're doing and I think the players have really taken ownership over these last two weeks around what we're doing on the park," said Maguire.

"I'm looking forward to seeing that transfer itself onto the playing field on Friday. We know the team that we're playing and we know what they're capable of.

"This is really about us - It's about what we do on the field and being really proud about the things we do for each other and our teammates."

With the playing group set to meet with Members after the match in Brisbane, Maguire is keen to once again experience the passion of the Queensland Rabbitohs who create plenty of noise at our games north of the border.

"We know we've got a big support base up there in Brisbane so I'm sure there's going to be plenty of noise when the boys get out on the field," said Maguire.

"They bring a hell of a lot and I'm really fortunate, as well as my playing group, that we play for a Club that gets support everywhere you go."
