If there’s one thing Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire has noticed during the pre-season, it’s his team’s focus on ‘we’.
While the more seasoned Members of Maguire’s squad prepare to return to the Red and Green to take on the Gold Coast Titans on Saturday at Pizzey Park– Greg Inglis, Adam Reynolds and Sam Burgess among them – Maguire pointed to the feeling of unity permeating the side’s preparation, and it’s Maguire’s senior players who have led that charge – including Burgess.
“One thing that I’ve really seen a real shift in our team over this off-season is the focus about ‘team’ and while he’s adding to that, we’d like to think we’re getting stronger,” said Maguire.
“He’s one player that adds a hell of a lot to us – there’s no doubting that, but he understands that we’re all a group and he’s very much about the team.
“He’s in great shape and he just wants to use it now I mean he did do a lot of work while he was gone – different game and different training, but he’s still in great shape and I think (with) all the work the boys have been putting in, we’re looking forward to getting the stuff that we’ve been practicing on the training park out on the field.”
“I think all the boys are (excited). Sam’s put a lot of work into getting himself back into great shape, he’s really enjoying training and there’s a lot of energy around the organisation.
“To have someone like that come back in – and Greg’s back in, and after the All Stars Tom (Burgess) – we’re just looking forward to getting back with the boys and practicing all the things we’ve been doing at training.”
