Maguire Backs Depth To Shine

The Rabbitohs will head into their round four clash with the Sydney Roosters without five first grade players due to injuries and suspensions. However, Coach Maguire believes his squad has the best depth it's had in years to handle this challenge.

With Hunt, Burns and George Burgess sidelined and Inglis and Gray injured, Maguire has called upon his depth players to show their ability in Thursday's clash.

Thomas Burgess and Siosifa Talakai return to the fold after impressive stints with the North Sydney Bears.

"(Thomas) played really well in the reserve grade game, and he's been again working really hard in the background to make sure he's worked at the things I've asked of him," Maguire said.

"He's doing that at the moment. I'm looking forward to getting big Tommy back in there."

Recruitment over the off-season has put the Rabbitohs in a good position to pick from many talented, young players to do their job in the top flight - A scenario the head coach is pleased with.

"We've got some good depth. A lot of young kids coming through, so it gives us a couple of different options. Young Robert Jennings, he's come in on the left and done a good job.

"Alex Johnston's gone down at fullback and he's been playing well. It's just allowing these young boys to get an opportunity and when they do get it, they're taking it at the moment."
