For Rabbitohs Head Coach, Michael Maguire, celebrating Indigenous culture and diversity at the Club is part of the rich tapestry of Rugby League.
“The special part of Rugby League is being able to support these kinds of opportunities and get behind them,” said Maguire ahead of the Club’s own Indigenous Round clash this Thursday against the Dragons at ANZ Stadium.
“The fact that we have a number of our players being Indigenous – everyone gets on board. It’s about the playing group, the brotherhood that we talk about sometimes in Rugby League.
“The players that have their hands on that jersey – I think it’s very special for them,” said Maguire.
“To be able to acknowledge one, their families, and us being able to spend a lot of time with these players is always special.
“They’re a big part of the South Sydney Family and I think there’s a lot of people that can take a lot of hope from seeing these young men build and develop their careers at Souths.”
The jersey that will be worn by the Rabbitohs this week is designed by Sydney-based Indigenous designer, Nikita Ridgeway, and tells the stories of the Club’s Indigenous players.
