South Sydney’s SG Ball (under 18s) and Harold Matthews (under 16s) sides scored a win and a loss respectively against St George over the weekend at Jubilee Oval.
The Matt King coached SG Ball side emerged 28-4 winners over the Dragons, with Campbell Graham picking up a double while Mawene Hiroti continued his form with the boot by landing four goals.
Harold Matthews coach, Jason Peterson said that the Ball’s victory comes down to solid 60 minute performances.
“They’re competing for the whole game and that showed on the score-board,” said Peterson speaking to Rabbitohs.com.au
“There were a couple of errors in there as well that Kingy will be looking to address this week, but all in all, positive signs from the ‘Ball’ side.”
Peterson’s under 16s meanwhile were unable to snatch victory from the Dragons, going down by just two points to the Red V at 22-20
“We’ve gone back to training this week and reviewed the game to identify a number of areas for improvement and that’s what we’re focused on now,” said Peterson.
“It’s the simple things we need to be mindful of – completing our sets and executing what we’ve been practicing at training, but it’s also about playing for the full 60 minutes.
“There’s probably a 10 minute period during game’s where we’ve switched off in the past and that’s something we’ll be looking to work on this week.
“There’s certainly belief in the squad that we can make the semi-finals. One pleasing thing is that the boys fight for each other and there’s a great deal of hunger. It’s all about this weekend’s game now.”
The SG Ball will this week face Perth at Redfern Oval (kick-off 1:30pm), while the Harold Matthews will take on the South West Sydney Academy of Sport at the same venue at midday.
