After two years in a part-time setup at the Redcliffe Dolphins, Anthony Cherrington is adjusting to the demands of a full-time preseason regime. It's a change that he admits is tough, but the versatile forward is enjoying the challenge and is determined to get himself a Rabbitohs debut.
Catching up with Rabbitohs.com.au after a long field session with his new teammates, an upbeat Cherrington declares he's adapting well to the setup at the Simply Energy High Performance Centre and is looking forward to challenge for a spot in Maguire's squad.
"Obviously I've been in a part-time system for the past two years. Being back in a full-time regime is a bit different for me," said Cherrington.
"In part-time football you're fitting in two or three hours of training in the afternoon, here we're doing pretty long field sessions and that kind of stuff,
"It's taken the knees and the body time to adjust but I'm starting to adapt. I'm enjoying it at the moment, trying to find my legs and trying to find my time as well."
Cherrington returns from his two years at the Brisbane Broncos feeder club with a more matured outlook than when he last plyed his trade in Sydney. Joining the Rabbitohs, Cherrington has settled in with his new teammates easily.
"Going to a new team it's always going to be a bit hard but I'm a lot older now and pretty easy-going," said Cherrington.
"A lot of the guys here are pretty friendly so I can't complain.
"At the moment I just want to get through preseason and next year get in the Red & Green jersey, definitely."
