It Holds Us In Good Stead Going Into The Pre-Season: Walker

Coming off the back of a stellar 2016 season, Rabbitohs five-eighth Cody Walker will be looking to pick up where he left off when his side commences pre-season training later in the year.

In his maiden season in the top-grade, Walker was a stand out for the Red and Greens featuring in 20 games at fullback and in the halves, scoring eight tries and proving to be a crucial cog in the Rabbitohs attack.

Despite strong showings throughout the season, there are two key moments that stood out according to the Casino Cougar’s junior.

“One of them would be Round 1 – my debut obviously – but the second highlight was the Indigenous Round,” said Walker.

“It’s probably one of my favourite games to play in and to have something to do with that jersey is something that I’m very proud of.”

Although Walker could be forgiven for wanting to wind down and reflect on his debut season in the Red and Green, that is certainly not the utility back’s primary focus.

“I’ll always look back and reflect on what I’ve done this year, but I’m just looking forward to getting into pre-season at the end of the year.

“It was a great month of footy that we ended on. It holds us in good stead going into the pre-season.”

Despite looking forward to preparations for season 2017, Walker is also eager to spend time with his family in his time off, heading back home to Casino whilst also getting his son ready for his first year of school.

“Getting my young fella ready for school, I think that’s the biggest things coming into the year,” said Walker.

“We’re going to head back to Casino – back home to mum and dads for a week or so.

“We’ve got a couple of special guests coming up there. Greggy (Greg Inglis) and Reyno (Adam Reynolds) are going to come up for a day and get around to the schools up there.

“I’m looking forward to it very much.”
