Indigenous Jersey - Luke Kelly

Luke Kelly explains the importance of the Indigenous culture and the connection with the Club ahead of the Round 17 clash with the Penrith Panthers at ANZ Stadium where the players will run out in their Indigenous jersey.

“There are eight players here at the Club that are Indigenous,” explained Kelly.

“And it’s probably one of the biggest in the NRL and obviously with the Club being in the heart of Redfern it’s heavily populated with Indigenous people and I think the Club does a great job at giving back.”

The Rabbitohs will wear the Indigenous jersey for the second time this season after wearing it against the Tigers in the NRL’s Indigenous Round and again this weekend to kick start NAIDOC Week.

“It was good to see the whole NRL get behind it for the round and it’s very special because it’s obviously a big part of our country and it’s something that I’m very proud to be a part of.

“The jersey is quite special, it’s got all the boys’ totems on it and its all linked back to the Rabbit and shows the relationship between the Indigenous community and the players back to the Rabbit.”

The Rabbitohs will run out in their Indigenous Jersey on Sunday in Round 17 against the Penrith Panthers at ANZ Stadium kicking off the start of NAIDOC Week.
