Indigenous Jersey - Cody Walker

Cody Walker spoke about the Indigenous jersey and what it means to him running out in artwork designed by his uncle.

“It’s going to be a pretty special game,” Walker explained.

“We already wore it against the Tigers about three or four weeks ago so to run out and kick start our NAIDOC week is going to be a pretty special moment for me."

The players had a part in picking which design they best liked in this year’s creation with Walker’s uncle, Joe Walker, making the best impact with his design.

“My uncle designed the jersey and I can’t wait to get out there.

“He entered a competition where everyone submitted their own style of Indigenous jersey. We all wanted our totem on the jersey this year and we wanted a bit of colour in it to represent South Sydney.

“All the dots connect to the Rabbit. It symbolises that we are one big family.

“We had about five or six entries that we picked from and we didn’t know whose one was which so we all voted for my uncles which is something special and I can’t wait to run out in it again.”

The Rabbitohs will run out in their Indigenous jersey in Round 17 against the Penrith Panthers at ANZ Stadium kicking off the start of NAIDOC Week.
