For Rabbitohs outside-back, Aaron Gray, knowing that teammate and fellow Souths Junior Adam Reynolds will represent New South Wales next week is a source of great pride.
“I’m stoked for him,” said Gray after finding out the news this week
“I sent him a message straight away when I found out just to congratulate him, because he really deserves his opportunity – all his persistence, work and performances on the field at training and in games have paid off, so we’re all really proud of both him and Greg (Inglis) for making it.”
Reynolds will likely take his place at halfback in Laurie Daley’s NSW side against Greg Inglis’ Maroons outfit, with his halves partner set to be Cronulla’s James Maloney.
Meanwhile back at Club level, despite spending time on the sidelines because of injury, Gray has been pleased with his side’s recent good performances – taking wins over Parramatta and St George Illawarra in successive weeks.
“The boys have been performing really well since that Parramatta game and during the last few weeks,” said Gray.
“I think the energy levels and the physicality is where we want it to be, but it’s just about us doing that consistently now.
“I’m sure all the boys will be taking the opportunity to go away and freshen up this week with the bye week and will come back firing against the Titans.”
The Rabbitohs winger will continue to spend time on the sideline after having injured his leg in this year’s City v Country match – an occasion that saw Gray score four tries in his maiden representative appearance.
“I can’t wait to get back out there with all the boys,” smiled Gray.
“Nobody likes sitting on the sideline and I’m no different. I’m just going to be doing the work so I can get back into the team when the time comes.
“The injury actually happened in the first half when I was scoring one of those tries.
“I didn’t realise how bad it was when I first did it, but it’s coming along really well at the moment and I’m looking forward to getting back out and playing in the coming weeks.
“The ‘Doc’ is pleased with the way I’m travelling – I’m feeling really good as well, so that’s all you can do.”
