Ever since Adam Doueihi converted from rugby union, the teenage half back has been turning heads.
Background
Despite playing rugby league as a junior, 19-year-old Adam Doueihi made waves in rugby union, representing their Australian Schoolboys in 2016. A Strathfield Raiders junior, Doueihi also represented the Balmain Tigers at SG Ball level before arriving in Redfern in 2017, where he quickly turned heads in his first year in Red and Green.
Career
Doueihi has gone from strength to strength in his first year at the Rabbitohs, starting off in the NYC team, where he excelled, despite the side going through an early teething period.
The five-eighth’s stellar form eventually saw him don the red and black of North Sydney, where he played a handful of games throughout the season, impressing in each outing.
He found himself back in the NYC side during the back end of the year, helping spark the side to a late season run that saw them just fall short of the playoffs.
Doueihi’s finest moment of 2017 would come during the Rugby League World Cup, where he represented his homeland of Lebanon alongside fellow Rabbitoh Robbie Farah. Despite playing out of position in the centres, the youngster scored two tries in his five appearances and played above his weight, helping send Lebanon to the semi-finals for the first time in competition history.
Style
With the ball in hand, Doueihi possesses a fine long passing game, regularly throwing huge looping cut-out passes to his wingers. He has an excellent long kicking and short kicking game to boot, constantly putting pressure on the opposition and gaining territory. The youngster is also able to kick conversions, consistently converting from the sideline during the NYC season.
General Manager of Football Shane Richardson“Adam Doueihi is an outstanding no. 6 at the Club that proved during the World Cup that he can play centre as well. He’s an outstanding goal kicker and kicker in general play as well, and we have high hopes for him putting pressure on first grade this year.”
How He Fits Into The Squad
While Cody Walker currently holds down the no.6 jersey, Doueihi will be putting plenty of pressure on his teammate to make the jersey his own.
One thing that falls heavily in Doueihi’s favour is his versatility. He is able to play in the halves and centres, and with such a big frame at 190cm and 95kg, the youngster would not look out of place in the backrow either.
You can expect the Cedars representative to make his debut off the bench at some point during the season.
