Crichton To Visit Arnhem Land In Off-Season

After making his long-awaited debut in Round 19 against the Brisbane Broncos, Rabbitohs forward Angus Crichton was impressive in his maiden season in the top-grade.

Crichton overcame a hand injury that he sustained in the early stages of the season to find his way into Michael Maguire’s side for the final eight games of 2016 – featuring in the side’s first win in nine games against the Warriors in New Zealand.

“Obviously making my debut was up there in the top few moments of the year for me, but another one would have to be my first win with the team over in New Zealand against the Warriors,”

“That was a big stepping stone in to us finishing our season really strong, so two pretty great moments for me.”

After averaging 34 minutes per game in his opening season in the NRL, the young back-rower will be looking to build on his game time in 2017.

With the 2016 season coming to an end, Crichton will now travel to Arnhem Land during his time off, meeting up with boys he met through an Indigenous mentoring program at Scotts College.

“I mentor a few Indigenous boys that grew-up, up there and have come down to school in Sydney,” said Crichton.

“I’m pretty close with those fellas, so I’m going up there and hanging out and meeting a few of the locals and living with them which will be a bit of an eye-opening experience.”

“I’ve been to the Northern Territory, but I’ve never been right up the top there in Arnhem Land, so it’ll be pretty cool I think, just going barra fishing and meeting a few of the locals. I’m really excited.”
