Competition in Halves Driving Playmakers

Rabbitohs halfback, Adam Reynolds, says that competition in the Club’s halves is spurring the class of 2016 play-making contenders all on to be the best they can be.

While Reynolds helped guide the World All Stars to victory wearing the number seven jersey during the pre-season, John Sutton, Luke Keary, and Cody Walker all put their hands up to stake a claim for the Club’s 2016 half and five-eighth pairing, with impressive performances from all.

Sutton showed his 246 games of experience through his precision kicking game and level head, while Walker and Keary both showed organisational skills and flashes of brilliance.

For Reynolds, training and playing with such high calibre colleagues in his opinion is breeding healthy competition.

“I think it’s been great for us,” said Reynolds.

“The competition within the halves is certainly going to bring the best out (of) one another. There’s a competitive nature there, so I’m looking forward to seeing how Luke (Keary) and Cody Walker are going – they’ve been Impressing at training.

“It’s just about getting out on the field now, playing good consistent football and pushing each other for a spot.”

The Rabbitohs will take on the Sydney Roosters in Round 1 of the 2016 NRL Telstra Premiership on Sunday 8 March at Allianz Stadium, in what will be the next chapter of the game’s longest-running rivalry.

With Keary set to miss the opening round clash through suspension, Walker or Sutton could yet find themselves pairing with Reynolds at the scrum-base.

Asked what Rabbitohs Members and supporters can expect from the new season, Reynolds pointed to excitement.

“Just an exciting one I think – all the boys are raring to go,” said the halfback.

“We’re looking forward to a challenge each and every week – we’re just looking forward to getting back out there and playing football for our Members.

“They drive us every week and they’re fantastic to have at games. We love hearing their voices, it always puts a smile on our face and we get to go over and thank them at the end of the games.”
