Clark - Relishing The Opportunity In Cairns

Rabbitohs forward, Jason Clark, is relishing the opportunity to head to Cairns for fellow Souths junior, John Sutton’s 250th game in the Red and Green against the North Queensland Cowboys on Sunday.

Having grown up and played his junior football in the local area similarly to the Souths stalwart, Clark understands the significance that the milestone will hold for both Sutton and his team mates.

“I’ve played a lot of my football with John and being a local kid myself as well, I’ve grown up following Souths and being a loyal supporter of his, so it’s quite a big deal for myself as well,” said Clark.

“250 for one Club is obviously a big deal and John being a local bloke is a big part.”

After sustaining a pectoral injury in Round 1 against the Roosters, Sutton faced a long period on the sideline, eventually making his way back into the side against the Eels in Round 15 – something that impressed Clark.

“Obviously it’s not ideal to go through what he’s been through,” said Clark.

“John’s experienced and went through all of the right channels and got himself back and obviously he’s fit enough to be playing and he’s working hard.”

Adding to Sutton’s milestone, the match against the Cowboys will mark the fourth year that the Rabbitohs have made the annual trip to Cairns for an interstate home game, which Clark believes is a highly anticipated fixture in the season.

“It’s going to be a good game up there. It’s a home game for us – I think plenty of tickets have been sold,” said Clark.

“We’ve been up there for four years now, so we’re quite used to it and there’s plenty of Red and Green out there too. So it does feel like a home game for us.”
