Champion Inspires Students at NCIE

Former Indigenous All Star and now Souths Cares Ambassador, Beau Champion, recently joined 36 young students in a school holiday Rugby League clinic at Redfern’s National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE).

The day gave students the opportunity to soak up everything Rugby League that they could from the former Rabbitohs centre, but it didn’t stop there.

Champion also made sure to spruik the many positive health messages that make up Souths Cares’ numerous programs, including good oral health and goal setting – among others.

Beau cited that it was important to give students the opportunity to hear positive messages around eating healthy and following their dreams.

“Days like this are a great opportunity to get those messages across,” said Champion.

“We spoke about staying healthy and looking after their general wellbeing, touched on eating well, getting plenty of sleep as well as exercise.

“Staying active is an important part of maintaining good health so the students and I joined in a game of footy as well.

“There are some really talented athletes among the students – we had a lot of fun.”

Beau also said that it was important for former Rabbitohs and all NRL players to give back to their communities.

“Community supports us so we should support community,” he said.

“The students we all given backpacks and other Rabbitohs goodies, which they really loved.”
