Burgess ready for fresh start in 2018

South Sydney Rabbitohs forward Sam Burgess is adamant that the team is primed and ready for a fresh start in 2018.

The Englishman strongly believes the team has prepared the best it can under new Head Coach Anthony Seibold and he can’t wait to get stuck into Round 1 opponent the New Zealand Warriors.

“Last years gone. Let's just focus on what’s coming up,” said Burgess.

“You will see the style we’re going to play. I’m sure you’ve all seen us train a bit, you’ve seen a couple of trials and we are very excited to play on Saturday.

“I guess you can make your comparisons on Saturday but, for us, it's about moving forward as a team and the first challenge is New Zealand.”

The 29-year-old, who starts at lock on Saturday, was also quick to reinforce the Rabbitoh's confidence in their team, regardless of any outside comments and predictions going into the new season.

“That’s fine pundits can have their comments,” Burgess said.

“I didn’t really know until you mentioned we have our own goals that will drive us through the year so we will use that.”

Following two pre-season wins, Burgess also cited the return of Captain Greg Inglis as another reason that the Red and Green is in the best possible shape for the new season.

“He is very dominant obviously, we want the ball in his hands but he’s also a draw card,” he added.

“It’s been great to have him out on the field, his leadership and sheer presence has been great, you will see him in some space on the weekend and he will hopefully attract some defenders.”
