Burgess Boys Bring Brits To Basecamp

It’s not unusual to spot some big Englishmen at Redfern Oval but this week it’ll be easier than ever as the English Rugby League Team prepare for their World Cup clash against Lebanon on the Rabbitohs’ hallowed turf.

Wayne Bennett’s men have settled in at Redfern Oval for the week, making use of the freshly renovated turf and excellent facilities.

Rabbitohs and England prop Tom Burgess said that while preparation felt easier at the Rabbitohs base, it was also a good chance for him and his teammates to enjoy the sights.

“It feels like home back here in Redfern, it couldn’t be more like home and it’s good to show the boys around,” said Burgess.

“It’s been good. We’ve been around we’ve been in Perth and Melbourne so it’s good to be back in Sydney for a little bit. We only got in yesterday but we’ll show them the sights of Sydney.”

Burgess also gave an update on teammate Sam Burgess, who sustained a medial ligament injury in the opening match against Australia, confirming the hard-hitting forward would be back in action later in the tournament.

“He’s getting around, moving around and with the medial ligament he’s just got to be careful when he gets back into full pace and they’ll have to keep testing it and see where he’s at,” he said.

“We’ve got some great medical staff here and they’ll keep working with him and hopefully we can get him back in the semi-finals if not the quarter finals.”

Burgess will come face-to-face with his Rabbitohs teammates Robbie Farah and Adam Doueihi when their two teams clash at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.
