Rabbitohs centre, Kirisome Auva’a and his teammates, have confidence in each other ahead of this Friday’s Round 8 clash against the Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.
As Souths Head Coach, Michael Maguire, prepares to announce his team to make the trip north this afternoon (Tuesday), Auva’a today cited that every player in the Club’s 30 man squad is capable of getting the job done within the team’s framework.
“It’s a team sport obviously, so everyone has their role within the squad,” said Auva’a.
“Whoever gets the jersey on game day has to do the job for the team. It’s a 30 man squad and we have confidence in every player to fill the shoes of those guys who are starting that might not play.”
If selected this week, Auva’a will play his 33rd game in the top grade wearing the Red and Green and could partner the likes of Bryson Goodwin and Hymel Hunt in the centres.
The Rabbitohs come into this week’s clash against 2015 Grand Finalists, the Broncos, having gone down to last year’s Premiers the Cowboys – a game that Auva’a says he and his men have learned plenty from in the days since.
“We’ve had a good look at ourselves,” admitted Auva’a.
“We’re still working hard on what we need to do in defence and once we get that fixed, our attack will just flow on the back of that.”
“We set very high standards and we haven’t been reaching those standards the last few weeks. We pride ourselves on being one of the best defensive teams and that hasn’t showed up.”
The Rabbitohs have won their last three encounters at Suncorp Stadium against the Broncos since 2013, including last year’s Round 1 victory as well 2014s effort that saw Greg Inglis streak some 80 metres to score one of the tries of that season.
