The Rabbitohs’ official website, www.rabbitohs.com.au, will be taking a look back at the past decade to see the growth of the Club over the past ten years.
Following on from the fairy-tale 2014 premiership, Membership to the South Sydney Rabbitohs swelled to its highest ever – over 35,000!
Matt King returned from retirement to take part in the 2015 NRL Auckland Nines and scored the winning try over the Cronulla Sharks in extra time to clinch the preseason trophy.
Success again followed shortly after as the Rabbitohs flew to St Helens to compete in the World Club Challenge - Beating St Helens 39-0 through 7 unanswered tries, 5 goals and a Reynolds field goal.
Glenn Stewart, Tim Grant and Cody Walker were welcomed into the squad (although Walker wouldn’t debut until 2016).
CEO Shane Richardson left to pursue a role at the NRL and was replaced by John Lee for the 2015 season.
Early season form was strong but injuries to Sutton and Dylan Walker early on followed by Reynolds leg injury in the ill-tempered Good Friday clash with the Bulldogs halted the march of the Rabbitohs.
Winning 8 out of 12 home games. Issac Luke produced the most runs out of dummy half (195) and more dummy half running metres than any other hooker in the game. Alex Johnston again found himself top try scorer and 3rd overall on the NRL try scorers list with 17.
With captain Greg Inglis undergoing knee surgery in the final rounds of the season the Rabbitohs failed to gather momentum going into the finals series and were knocked out by the Sharks.
Ben Lowe would announce his retirement after succumbing to various injuries suffered over his eight year career. He is currently assistant coach to the 2017 NYC squad.
