A Look Back At: 2010

The Rabbitohs’ official website, www.rabbitohs.com.au, will be taking a look back at the past decade to see the growth of the Club over the past ten years.

Looking to bounce back from two difficult seasons, it was hoped that 2010 would once again see the Rabbitohs in contention to play finals football, with many pundits tipping a top four finish for the side.

With the signing of forwards Sam Burgess, Dave Taylor and Ben Ross and the return of fullback Rhys Wesser – who only featured in two games in his debut season in the Red and Green due to injury – South Sydney looked to have formulated a strong side that was more than capable to push for a spot in the post-season period.

The 2010 season saw the Rabbitohs continue their trend of improved attack, with the Red and Greens posting 584 points – the most recorded by any Souths team in history. It was this attacking prowess that saw South Sydney hold a position within the top eight for the majority of the season.

However, the momentum that was established at the start of the season diminished towards the back end of the year, as the Rabbitohs once again fell agonisingly short of the finals.

Injuries to a host of key players including Issac Luke, Roy Asotasi, David Taylor, Ben Lowe, Michael Crocker and Luke Stuart at stages during the season undoubtedly impacted the side heavily.
