2016 Player Review: Kyle Turner

With the South Sydney Rabbitohs season coming to an end, we take a look at the individual performances of Michael Maguire’s players in our 2016 Player Reviews. Today we look at back rower, Kyle Turner.

After sustaining a serious neck injury during the 2015 season, Turner played an integral role for the Red and Greens in 2016, featuring in 23 games – the most of any Rabbitohs player alongside Jason Clark and Sam Burgess.

In his first full season since returning from the potentially career ending injury, the Coonabarabran Unicorns junior featured prominently in his sides defence, completing 691 tackles – the third most of any Rabbitohs player – at an effectiveness of 90.8%.

Additionally, the 2014 Premiership player crossed for 3 tries throughout the season whilst also contributing 2 try assists and averaging 67 metres per game with ball in hand.

Turner’s season highlight came in Round 23, with the back rower playing his 50th game in the Cardinal and Myrtle against the New Zealand Warriors at Mt Smart Stadium.

The milestone game inspired a 41-22 victory and triggered a string of strong performances that saw the Rabbitohs claim victory in their final four outings in 2016.
