Selected participants in Souths Cares' Liverpool Opportunity Hub and Barranggirra programs were recently provided with brand new laptops thanks to Zoom to assist with their training and education pathways.
A total of seven program participants received laptops to support their diverse career pathways that include Plumbing, Construction, Child Care, Education, Aboriginal Studies, Music and Architecture.
Rhys Wesser, Career and Education Pathways Advisor at the Liverpool Opportunity Hub explained supporting student’s career pathways after completing school is a fundamental aspect of the Hub.
“The transition from school to employment, training or tertiary education is a huge milestone in a young person’s life. We work intensively with our HSC graduates to ensure this transition is a success, and the generous support of Zoom has provided our participants with valuable resources to pursue their dreams"
Zoom have been a great supporter of Souths Cares, with the recent laptop initiative just one of many ways the company has assisted Souths Cares' community programs. Zoom have also hosted Souths Cares students at the company’s head office to showcase career pathways within the communications technology industry.
Lenny Hornby is a participant in the Liverpool Opportunity Hub and obtained his HSC last year before commencing a Plumbing apprenticeship with the company Eirinn Gas & Water. Lenny received a laptop which will be utilized for TAFE assignments throughout the duration of his apprenticeship.
“Being a first-year apprentice, the weekly wages aren’t a lot and I’m also trying to save for a work Ute as well.
The laptop will be a huge help for me completing my TAFE assignments”’ Lenny said.
Whilst Lenny will transition out of the Liverpool Opportunity Hub later this year, he will continue to receive mentoring support through Souths Cares’ Barranggirra program as he completes his apprenticeship.
The Liverpool Opportunity Hub and Barranggirra programs are proudly supported by Training Services NSW.
