Souths Cares' Liverpool Opportunity Hub is celebrating another successful year, with 16 students obtaining their HSC in 2023.

This year's HSC cohort attended four high schools in the Liverpool LGA including Ashcroft High School, Good Samaritan Catholic College, James Busby High School and Lawrence Hargrave School.

The Year 12 students have already begun planning for life after school with the support of the Liverpool Opportunity Hub team. Four students have been accepted into University, six students have commenced or a pursuing an apprenticeship/traineeship, two students have secured full-time employment and the remaining students will continue to work with their mentors as they explore their employment, education and training options for next year.

Victoria Hanshaw recently graduated from Good Samaritan Catholic College and has been accepted into the University of Sydney. Victoria explained the Liverpool Opportunity Hub assisted her navigate the wealth of opportunities available after High School.

Through the Liverpool Opportunity Hub I was able to explore a heap of different industries and University options through attending excursions. I was excited to be accepted into a Teaching Degree at University of Sydney for next Semester and will be able to pursue my dream of becoming a High School Teacher

Rhys Wesser, Careers and Education Pathways Advisor with the Liverpool Opportunity Hub explained this year’s HSC graduates had bright futures ahead of them.

"It’s been a privilege to be able to mentor this group of Year 12's along their journey to achieving their HSC and discovering their tertiary education and career aspirations.

Our Liverpool Opportunity Hub team are very fortunate to be able to inspire our future leaders, and I'm excited about what this group of Year 12 graduates can achieve", Rhys said.

To celebrate gaining their HSC, Year 12 students were invited to a game of bowling and lazer tag in Liverpool yesterday and also received a graduation gift compliments of Souths Cares.

Each HSC graduate will continue to be supported through the Liverpool Opportunity Hub throughout 2024 as they transition into their employment, training and tertiary education pathways.
