Rabbitohs Pay Tribute to Ray Warren Following Retirement

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have paid tribute to legendary commentator Ray Warren after he announced his retirement from calling Rugby League today.

Mr Warren, appropriately nicknamed ‘Rabbits’, has been commentating Rugby League for 55 years, during which time he has called countless South Sydney Rabbitohs matches, including our first game back after re-instatement in 2002, the 2014 NRL Premiership victory. Fittingly, the final NRL game which he called in his career was the Rabbitohs vs Panthers Grand Final in 2021.

The 78-year-old called 99 State of Origin matches, 45 Grand Finals and was also one of the country’s best horse racing and swimming commentators. He was inducted into the NRL Hall of Fame in 2019.

Rabbitohs CEO, Blake Solly, paid tribute to Mr Warren.

“Rugby League without the voice of Ray Warren won’t be the same again. It’s like a warm blanket throughout the winter months,” Mr Solly said.

“It’s an honour to know the last game that he called was the 2021 Grand Final in which our team played, and his voice will forever be connected to our 21st Premiership victory in 2014.

“We wish Ray and his family all the very best in retirement and he is welcome at any Rabbitohs match at any time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the football.”

On behalf of everyone connected to the South Sydney Rabbitohs, we congratulate Ray Warren on a stellar career and thank him for all of the memories with which his voice will be connected throughout the ages.
