Nanga Mai Marri Participant Commences Employment

Souths Cares is celebrating the success Kirra Banton who is a participant in the Nanga Mai Marri (Dream Big) Program and commenced employment yesterday.

Kirra attends South Sydney High School and has been a participant in the Nanga Mai Marri (Dream Big) Program for the past three years. When Kirra first entered the program she was quiet and shy, however after working with Souths Cares Mentor Natalee Rolani-Golding, Kirra grew in confidence and expressed a desire to gain employment whilst also pursuing her High School Certificate.

Natalee and Kirra worked together on creating a resume, developing interview skills and approaching employers in her local area. Kirra’s persistence and dedication payed off when she was offered an interview for Target at Eastgardens.

Although a little nervous heading into her first job interview, Kirra drew upon the interview skills she learnt through working with Natalee and addressed the interview questions with confidence. Kirra was subsequently offered employment and continued to receive support from Souths Cares to complete her induction and training modules.

Natalee has supported Kirra throughout her employment journey and accompanied her to her first shift yesterday. Natalee explained it was weeks of hard work and commitment which helped Kirra achieve this significant milestone.

“Throughout the time I have worked with Kirra I have seen her growth and development. Week after week she has shown a great dedication to achieving her goals and to see how far she has come is an absolute highlight for me”, Natalee said.

Kirra explained the mentoring support she received was critical in her recent success.

“Since working with Natalee she’s helped me get out of my shell a little which has given me the confidence to apply for jobs, go to job interviews and ultimately succeed in gaining job. I am appreciative and grateful for her and all that she has done for me as my mentor”, Kirra said.
