Rabbitohs Establish Historical Society

More than a century of storytelling and record keeping of the famous South Sydney Rabbitohs is in great hands with the establishment of the South Sydney Rabbitohs Historical Society (SSRHS) on Wednesday 24 November, 2021.

Venerable Rabbitohs Historians Michael Curin, Brad Ryder and Marco Sivis were joined by Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly, South Sydney’s Media and Communications Manager Jeremy Monahan and Digital Content Manager Sunny Brar in the first meeting of the Club’s Historical Society last week.

The SSRHS will focus on story telling and record keeping, helping everyone interested in the Rabbitohs understand where the Club has come from and what has been woven into the fabric of the Club since 1908.

Other Rabbitohs history buffs will also be invited to provide input into some exciting projects on the horizon for the Club including building the historical footprint of the Club’s digital channels as well as the Rabbitohs Community and High Performance Centre being constructed at Heffron Park in Maroubra.

Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly said: “It was an honour to be able to attend the first meeting of the South Sydney Rabbitohs Historical Society last week.

“The Club’s history is of great importance and passing along the stories and achievements of the Club, its players, coaches and contributors, of which there are many over the past almost 114 years, is vitally important as well.

“Rather than many historians working in isolation we’ll be bringing together some the Club’s brightest minds and history buffs to tell the stories of the Club and help broaden the stories and records of the Club from the past 113 years and ongoing into the future.

“Our history is a point of difference for our Club and something of which we are very proud, so we look forward to working closely with Historical Society members and their invited guests to give our Members and fans the greatest opportunity to learn about what it means to be a Rabbitoh.”
