Season 2021 will be Dane Gagai’s final season at South Sydney after having decided to move on to another NRL club at season’s end.
Gagai, 30, was offered an extended contract to play elsewhere from 2022 onwards, a contract offer he has decided to take up. Said contract has now been signed and lodged with the NRL by his future club.
Gagai has represented Australia, Queensland, the Indigenous All Stars and the Maori All Stars during his four years with South Sydney.
Rabbitohs CEO, Blake Solly, says the Club wishes Dane all the best in the future.
“Dane has done a fantastic job for our Club over the past four years, often an underrated job, and we fully understand his desire for a long term deal that provides further security for his young family,” Mr Solly said.
“He has worked hard for us to bring us the success we have enjoyed in recent seasons and we’re all looking forward to him continuing that work for the remainder of this season as we look to secure our 22nd premiership.
“Dane, Kelly, Dante and Cruz and are a beautiful family, and they will always be part of the Rabbitohs family.”
