Rabbitohs Expanding Female Pathways in 2022

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are delighted to announce that the Club will be expanding its female pathways system to include under 19s Tarsha Gale Cup and under 17s Lisa Fiola Cup sides from the 2022 season.

As part of the Club’s whole Elite Pathways and Player Development (EPPD) program strategic plan, the establishment of the under 19s and under 17s female squads will support the pathway to the Club’s open age NSWRL Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership squad, which is all part of setting up the required systems to reaching our goal and achieving sustained success in the NRLW competition with a South Sydney Rabbitohs squad in the not-too-distant future.

Rabbitohs Head of Elite Pathways and Player Development, Joe O’Callaghan, said:

As a program we are extremely excited to move into this next integral step in our overall female pathway.

“After seeing some great development in a very young Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership squad this season, setting up teams in these key ages of under 17s and under 19s is very important to ensure our young women in the South Sydney area can come all the way through their career in the one system and have the opportunity to represent their Club at the highest levels.”

Rabbitohs CEO, Blake Solly, added: “These are exciting times for our Club as young girls throughout the South Sydney district will be able to now see a clear progression to the open age competitions.

Souths Juniors and local clubs have done a fantastic job with their introduction of female age group competitions and now young girls will be able to have the opportunity to represent the Rabbitohs at the under 17s, under 19s and open age levels.

“It won’t be long until we are also fielding a team in the NRLW competition and with these pathways set up by Joe and his team, we can be assured we will have the best opportunity to be successful when we join the NRL’s competition in the coming years.”

The Rabbitohs will be seeking interest from players who wish to be included in the 2022 under 19s Tarsha Gale Cup squad ahead of their pre-season which will begin in November this year.

There will be three nights allocated to the Talent Identification Program including two skills nights and an invitation-only trial match.

The dates will be three consecutive Thursdays - 8 July, 15 July and 22 July – from 6:30pm-8:30pm at Erskineville Oval. The squad induction day will take place in late October 2021.
