QLD Outback And NQ United To Play Curtain Raiser
The Queensland Outback will take on the North Queensland United team in the Curtain Raiser match played ahead of our Round 19 clash with the Cowboys at 1:45pm at Barlow Park in Cairns.
The Queensland Outback side comprises of players from Leagues in the Western part of Queensland and into the North West part of NSW. The North Queensland United team includes players from Palm Island, the Cape and Indigenous communities, the North Peninsula Australia and its five communities and the Torres Strait Islands.
These teams comprise of players who travel far across the land and water to make it to their matches with some teammates traveling over five hours one way every fortnight to play for their community club while others make a two hour journey across the water to Thursday Island to play their club football.
This concept has been running for five years with Queensland Outback taking out the first two years until a reversal occurred with Queensland United taking home three consecutive wins the years following.
Although results have varied with close margins to some large wins, both teams will be looking to take home the trophy as they open the afternoon of footy prior to the NRL Telstra Premiership Round 19 Rabbitohs vs Cowboys clash.
The NRL match will kick off at 4:00pm.
