The South Sydney Rabbitohs will show their gratitude towards those men and women currently serving in the Australian Defence Force by offering them free entry to the Rabbitohs vs Broncos game being played this Friday 21 April during the NRL’s ANZAC weekend.
The Rabbitohs will also be making an evening at the football as affordable as possible for families during the school holidays, offering junior general admission tickets for just $5, and general admission family passes for just $40 at both the round eight clash with the Broncos at ANZ Stadium and the round nine Men of League match up against the Sea Eagles at Allianz Stadium. Family passes include two adults and two juniors, or one adult and three juniors, with any number of additional junior tickets being available for $5 each.
ANZAC commemorations will take place at the round eight game against the Broncos, with the Rabbitohs paying tribute to a legend of the Club, Jack Rayner, who served in the Australian Army in Papua New Guinea during the second World War. An ANZAC commemorative ceremony will take place pre-game, there will be RSL DefenceCare fundraising at ANZ Stadium on the night, and the presentation of the ANZAC Round man-of-the-match medal at the conclusion of the game by an RSL representative.
The Rabbitohs will also be wearing a special ‘camouflage’ jersey, with $5 from every retail jersey sold through the Rabbitohs’ merchandise outlets going towards the 104th Battery, part of the 1st Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery. The 104th Battery has had links with the Rabbitohs since 1967 where the soldiers would cast aside their Army-issued physical training clothes in favour of South Sydney jerseys. The soldiers took their jerseys to war and would wear them during down time. The 104th Battery has worn the Rabbitohs’ colours in conflicts all over the world including Vietnam, Cambodia, East Timor, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Round nine will be the Rabbitohs’ dedicated Men of League round, featuring the Rabbitohs’ past players’ reunion, a lap of honour and guard of honour made up of former Rabbitohs’ players and legends, as well as Men of League fundraising opportunities at the game. The Chairman of the Men of League Foundation is South Sydney legend Ron Coote.
In reference to the free entry for current Australian Defence Force personnel, Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly said this was a way for the Club to show their support for the men and women who are protecting us each and every day.
“As a Club we want to thank those men and women who serve in our Defence Forces for the sterling job they do at protecting all Australians, both on our shores and abroad,” Mr Solly said.
“A free night at the footy is a small gesture, showing our gratitude for the job they do each and every day, and we hope to get many servicemen and servicewomen along to enjoy the action and cheer on the Rabbitohs.”
Mr Solly said it’s also important to give kids and families an opportunity to enjoy the NRL action during the school holidays.
“The feedback we get from our supporters is that it can be difficult to get the kids and families along to games on Friday nights during the year, so during the school holidays we have an opportunity to provide affordable ticketing options to attract new young supporters and their families to our game against the Broncos this Friday,” Mr Solly said.
“Entertaining the kids during the school holidays can be a full time job in itself, so to be able to bring the family along for just $40, or bring any number of kids along for just $5 each, is an opportunity we’re sure many of our supporters will take up during the first school holiday break of the year.
“We’re also offering these prices at our game on Friday-week against the Sea Eagles at Allianz Stadium on Friday 28 April at the family-friendly kick off time of 6pm, so our fans in western Sydney and closer to home in the South Sydney district can both enjoy these discounted general admission ticket prices over the next fortnight.
“There will be plenty of activities around both stadiums to entertain the kids as well as having the chance to watch the mighty Rabbitohs take on the Broncos and the Sea Eagles.”
