Sam Set to Face Eels

After leaving the field in Round 14 with a shoulder complaint, Rabbitohs lock-forward, Sam Burgess, says that he is ready to ply his trade this Friday night against the Parramatta Eels at ANZ Stadium should he be selected today.

Burgess himself was initially concerned about the state of his shoulder following an attempted tackle on a Tigers player that saw his arm hang limply by his side following contact – the Englishman thinking he had broken his collarbone at the time.

However scans have since shown no structural damage, leading Burgess to believe he is ready to roll this Friday night.

“My shoulder has pulled up fine,” said Burgess.

“There’s no structural damage which we were worried about initially, so I should be fine for this weekend.

“I did actually think I’d broken my collarbone initially. I’ve had two reconstructions on this right shoulder before, so probably just some old scarring there. But like I said, it’s fine.

“I’ll train today and get out there on Friday night.”

The Rabbitohs will be looking to bounce back from last week’s loss when they return to ANZ Stadium to take on an Eels team coming off a 22-12 victory over the Gold Coast.

For Burgess, there’s plenty of improvement left in his team, as well as in his own game – the dual-international citing the importance of improving his handling.

“The last month of footy has not been my greatest with the ball – I’ve had a few errors” said Burgess.

“I’m just disappointed with that – makes more work for my teammates. I’m trying to fix that up.

“No-one means to do anything out there and make errors – it’s my eleventh or twelfth season now and I’m still working on keeping hold of the ball. It’s a funny old game.”

Rabbitohs Head Coach, Michael Maguire will announce his Round 15 team to take on the Eels this evening (Tuesday). Stay tuned to Rabbitohs.com.au for the announcement.
