Dragons Announce Team for Round 3

The St George Illawarra Dragons have named their team to take on the South Sydney Rabbitohs this Sunday in Round 3 of the NRL Telstra Premiership at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Dragons coach, Paul McGregor, named his strongest available 17 on Tuesday – a side which may possibly be his strongest line-up of the season yet, after going down in their opening two clashes against the Melbourne Storm and Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks.

The Dragons’ Kurt Mann experiment at fullback is over, with NSW Blues custodian Josh Dugan set to revert to the position following two games played in the centres. Euan Aitken comes into the centres after spending a week at the Illawarra Cutters to partner Tim Lafai as part of a potent back-five that also includes the likes of Peter Mata’utia and Jason Nightingale.

The halves combination of Benji Marshall and Gareth Widdop will steer the Red V around the park, while up-front, the likes of Leeson Ah Mau, Mitch Rein and Russell Packer will stoke the side’s engine-room.

Saints will also possess plenty in the way of replacement fire-power, with co-captain Ben Creagh and impact forward Jack de Bellin set to relieve the red and white forwards off the bench.

Rabbitohs Head Coach, Michael Maguire, meanwhile named his squad to face the Dragons on Tuesday, with a near identical line-up to Round 2s match against the Newcastle Knights being given the job of doing it all again.
