Dave Tyrrell and his Rabbitohs teammates are fully focused on the St George Illawarra Dragons as they prepare to face their traditional rivals in Round 3 of the NRL Premiership at the Sydney Cricket Ground this Sunday.
Despite two near clinical performances in the opening rounds of the season that saw the men in Red and Green score 90 points and concede just 16, Tyrrell reminded that it is up to him and his teammates to turn up ready to play each week.
“It’s up to us to turn up every week and we’re focused on the Dragons this weekend – that’ll be a big game for us,” said Tyrrell.
“It’s been pretty pleasing – we practice every day those plays. Where things go wrong, the boys just go back into their job. It’s really pleasing that everyone’s doing their job and things are coming off for us.”
But despite being pleased with how the Rabbitohs are executing their game-plan, the prop-forward was quick to remind that the side is far from perfect and that much work is required.

“There’s lots of little things that we get wrong in games,” admitted Tyrrell.
“We’re really focused on just improving as a group and we’re still working on a few combinations. We’re working really well as a group and everyone’s working hard for each other.”
Tyrrell has led the Rabbitohs from the front since season kick-off, providing the side with consistent charges with the ball in hand and plenty of strong defence. In Round 2 against the Knights, Tyrrell ran for 128 metres from 15 carries while also making 11 tackles in his 45 minutes on the pitch.
Tyrrell is pleased with his early season form – form he attributes to a well-earned rest following off-season surgery and a good pre-season. But the forward added that all that comes to nothing if the team doesn’t show up to play on the day.
“Everyone trains hard in the pre-season – (there was probably a bit more running),” said Tyrrell.
“Every team’s probably doing all the running and that sort of work, but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter come Round 1, come Round 2 – it’s how you perform on the day and that’s what we’re focused on.
“Each game is a different story.”
